The Garden of Dreams

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Roots created its third Dream space named by our youth: The Garden of Dreams. The Garden of Dreams is a youth-envisioned and youth-created community garden and outdoor clinic erected in the abandoned lot next door to our Dreamcatcher location. In the Garden of Dreams our youth build community with each other safely outdoors by growing their own fruit and vegetables through regularly scheduled planting days, learn about urban gardening and nutrition through monthly community workshops, harvest and cook the garden vegetables in the shelter through monthly cooking workshops. The Garden of Dreams is a healing outdoor youth space — a visible anchor of stability– where young people can connect with Dream Clinic staff beyond the four walls of the traditional clinic setting.
