Blog: Spirit Day at Carl B. Munck Elementary School

In a sea of a hundred children, they all had one thing in common- a toothy smile. Early this summer, Roots participated in Carl B. Munck Elementary School’s Spirit Week! The day was filled with stimulating activities and served as a ‘last hurrah’ before they let out for summer vacation.

Carl B. Munck community is united in their commitment to providing students with a caring and challenging learning environment, which empowers them to become responsible and  productive citizens in a global society. For this reason, we partnered with them to honor all our community and our children.

Carl B. Munck Elementary School Principal, Denise Burroughs prepares to announce winners of the raffle.

Our dedicated staff members joined the youth for various activities including a bean bag toss, jump rope and classic playground games. Children from K-5 enjoyed a nutritious barbecue lunch that included organic chicken, hotdogs and vegetables. The kids received a customized Roots bag that they used to hold their freshly picked items from our very own mini-farmers market! We were able to instill empowerment and the principle of choice  in each student as they were allowed to pick their own apples, potatoes and shallots. The event concluded with a memorable raffle! 4 lucky students won a dune buggy! One exclaimed that he was taking it home that very day and pushed with all his might!

The four winners happily pose infront of their new dune buggies donated by Roots Community Health.

A week later, the students sent an adorable thank you booklet to our COO, Mr. Naji and Roots Community Health staff! They loved our presence and all have a light blue, co-branded Munck/Roots shirt to remind them of our event. We look forward to partnering again with Munck next year!

Students from Ms. Haynes’ 4th grade glass express their thanks.
