Apply to be a Roots Summer Fellow!
The Roots Fellowship Program is an unpaid 10-week, part-time or full-time program. Fellows will gain experience working with the social determinants of health from a variety of angles. Applicants should be committed to uplifting those impacted by systematic inequities and poverty in accordance with Roots’ mission. The Clinical Fellow works with a variety of clinic staff including the Clinic Services Manager, Director of Operations, Patient Care Coordinator, MA’s, and Physicians. The Fellow will assist with projects involving the clinical side of patient care from assisting with patient chart maintenance to clinic supplies organization to data analysis of patient charts. Fellow may also help with follow-up calls, referrals, faxes, and mailings. Shadowing experiences may be provided. The Fellow may take on a special project relating to health, such as creating an informational brochure.
The Empowerment Fellow works with a variety of empowerment center staff including the Empowerment Center Coordinator, Barrier Removal Specialist, Policy & Public Affairs Manager, and Eligibility & Enrollment Specialist. Fellow may be involved in projects including assistance with facilitation of career/professionalism workshops, community event coordination, and Medi-Cal and CalFresh related projects. The Fellow may take on a special project, such as coordinating a particular community event.
The Development Fellow works closely with the Development Team including the Development Specialist, COO, Director of Operations, Policy & Public Affairs Manager, and CEO. The Fellow may assist with development of fundraising initiatives, grant writing, Gala planning, and program development. The Fellow may take on a special project, such as coordinating a small project or applying for a grant.
Policy & Communication Fellow
The Policy & Communication Fellow works with the Policy & Public Affairs Manager and Policy & Planning Specialist. The Fellow will assist with press releases, social media campaigns, newsletters, and flyer creation. The Fellow will also assist with outreach for community events. The Fellow may take on a special project relating to communication, such as writing a series of health-related blog posts.
