Roots Community Health Delivers Smiles to Hundreds of Youth This Holiday Season
Hundreds of East Oaklanders attended Roots’ Holiday Toy Giveaway on Saturday, December 24th. Roots Community Health delivered smiles to hundreds of children this holiday season by distributing over 300 CareBears Dune Buggies and Ultimate Spiderman Dune Buggies to deserving families with an estimated suggested retail value of $299 each.
“We know that the holiday season can be a stressful time for our local families. We are glad to be able to ease some of the financial burden for hundreds of families today…and the smiles on the children’s faces definitely made it all worthwhile,” said Dr. Noha Aboelata, CEO of Roots Community Health.
Local community members lined the block peacefully in hopes of receiving a dune buggy. Michael & Cynthia Moulton, East Oakland residents who run Brock Family Daycare and Preschool expressed their appreciation. According to Michael, “We know what it takes to run a busy and successful operation and saw men of color managing all aspects of today’s operation with respect & patience. Handling tasks such as tempers, questions, traffic, and the unexpected can be alarming if ill prepared for it. Y’all kept it real and to the point of what Christmas is all about…Thank you for providing the community the holiday miracles and gifts for the kids. Our family was excited to experience and see this opportunity no matter the wait.”
Roots is dedicated to improving the lives of East Oaklanders through a Whole Health model that fosters empowerment with wrap-around services that include healthcare, community based services and a social enterprise. We go beyond our walls by giving to the community during this holiday season.
