Today is Day 2 of Roots’ 10 Days of Whole Health!  All year round, our services extend outside our walls with Oakland STOMP (Street Team Outreach Medical Program), Roots’ street medicine program that brings care to the people. We deliver medical care, outreach, benefits enrollment and linkage to services to homeless individuals throughout the city of Oakland.

Oakland STOMP truly meets the people “where they’re at” – physically, and in terms of their readiness to engage in their own health and well-being. By building long-term relationships and reducing harm, we are able to reach those members of our community who have been marginalized from traditional healthcare, while improving the health of our community overall.

Oakland STOMP mobile outreach clinic attended City of Oakland’s Thanksgiving event last month.  “In the morning, we provided medical care for 10 people and spent the afternoon passing out meals to some of our closest clients.  Our intention was to foster partnership and trust within the homeless community,” said Dr. Jason Reinking, our Director of Street Medicine. Over the past year and a half, STOMP has been building strong relationships with East Oakland’s homeless population.  STOMP graciously received donations of warm clothing from California Capital & Investment Group to disperse to their patients while they delivered primary care services.

The STOMP Mobile Clinic goes to Downtown Oakland on Tuesdays, West Oakland on Wednesdays, and East Oakland on Thursdays.
